Exterior of smart wired home
With one child finishing school and another two at university, it was important to the family that they had a computer networking system.
"We used Cat6 cabling and put data points in each of the five bedrooms so the kids could have their own computers. Data networking facilitates the kid's constant need to access a printer, as their computers are linked to a central printer in the upstairs office. With an equally high need to access the internet and download music, movies or study material, we have two broadband lines coming in to the server," says Kevin.
The wired system is backed up by a wireless network for the upstairs and downstairs - allowing the kids to work on their laptops anywhere in the house, from the timber-deck terrace that opens from the home theatre, to the open-living room upstairs that boasts ocean views to Garden Island.
