Exterior of smart wired home
Entertainment was another important consideration to the Guppy family, with both kids and parents needing a space for entertaining guests. The solution was a home theatre in a dedicated room that could be either closed-off via bi-fold doors or opened-up as a larger entertaining area.
"The theatre is designed so that we can use it as a home theatre but if we are having a party we can open it right up to the outside or the dining room. It is great for having friends over to watch the AFL football - the bi-fold doors open up to the deck at the front of the house, where there are ocean views, so you can stand outside and still not miss a goal!"
With light coming into the home theatre when it is open, it was not possible to have a projector screen, so the family opted for a 60-inch plasma TV, the largest one they could find at the time.
A HDMI cable (fully digital connection that allows both high definition audio and video to pass through a single cable) is wired from the plasma to the back corner where all the equipment is housed, enabling a simple connection for Foxtel, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, which doubles as a blu-ray DVD player.
