Introduction

Movie fans will be reaching for the popcorn in the impressive home theatre of this smart wired home in Mindarie, Western Australia.

"A lot of our friends had converted their games room with pool table into a home theatre so when we built this house we knew a home theatre was going to be a popular inclusion. Once we'd decided that's what we wanted to do, I felt it important to do a proper job of it," says owner John Wriggley.

"To give the feel of a real cinema, we included two entrances, concealed lighting and walls painted in deep red and the colours of the night sky."

This good-as-new two-storey home was built a year ago, with intelligent lighting, multi room audio and computer networking, but it is the home theatre that sets the mood for the home.

With three children in their twenties, this family has made great use of the home theatre but as all three kids have now moved out, John and his wife are looking to build again, this time a smaller home.

"Our kids have all just flown the nest and here we are in this big five-bedroom, five-bathroom house rattling about."
