House of the Month
Calypso Bay, Queensland
With both parents working full-time as pilots, two young children to look after, and a home located an hour?s return drive from the nearest shopping centre, this family was in need of a smart wired home that would integrate technology into everyday living.
Intelligent Lighting
To deal with odd shift work hours, when one partner or the other would be returning home from work after midnight, a Dynalite Lighting control system with an SMS text in feature was installed. A simple SMS in the car upon arriving home sets the lights at an appropriate level from the driveway to the bedroom without disturbing the rest of the household.
Home owner, Mat Henry describes the benefits to his family from having a lighting control system, including SMS module:
"The lighting system works tremendously well for us. We find the lighting control not only beneficial for everyday day use, but as we settle of an evening one button modifies the lighting and dims/turns on/off all lights we have pre-selected to program.
"We have scenes for unexpected guests that allow our house to showcase its lighting features of kitchen LED's, pool lights and general entertainment with less than 5 seconds notice. We had an occasion at a dinner out recently where our friends wanted to visit our house after dinner, so I sent an SMS 'guest visit' to the house on the drive home, and when we got home the house was lit perfect for a showcase photo shoot - extremely impressive!
"As a shift worker, one touch of the keypad at my bed-head lights a path to the door via all stations I need from the bathroom, staircase, kitchen and exit of the house, I have even programmed them to dim so if the lights dim in my morning out-the-door routine I know I am running a little behind time. A touch of the K4 LCD touch pad shows me the Traffic Cams immediately so as I can plan my route to work with no fuss.
"Such is true with the SMS module. As I drive home I SMS a keyword to the house and all lights dimmed to my needs to get me in the door and to bed. I touch nothing, get into bed and on the keypad at my bed-head I press 'house off' and all the lights turn off, so I don't need to worry about that one light I might have forgotten downstairs. I can even SMS 'lights off' in bed on my mobile phone if I fancy."
