A good installer can make products perform tasks for which they were not originally intended.

When hooked up to a special processor, for example, a plasma screen can behave not only as a TV, but also as a computer monitor and a piece of artwork. The ability to integrate multiple systems to work as one is an installer's most important skill.

He/She should know, for example, how to unite a security system, a lighting system, and a climate control system so that one press of a button or signal from a sensor can simultaneously reset the alarms, adjust the lights and set back the thermostats.
