Cascade Gardens residential estate in Rockhampton, Queensland, is one of a number of new developments to use the LexCom Home Network to deliver Telstra's Velocity fibre optic service.

With the LexCom Home Network, developers don't have to predefine which rooms home owners may like to install a TV, computer or telephone, because these services are available from every outlet in the home.

"Instead of wondering which room the residents might want to turn into a lounge room with video access, or a study with computer points, the developer can leave this to the home owner to decide," says Con Galiotos, Product Manager, Home Technologies, PDL Electrical Products.

This is made possible through the use of an ultra-high capacity cable and universal RJ45 outlets.

"The unique use of shielded RJ45 outlets for all of these signals, and the LexCom cable capable of supporting 10 gigabit data (Cat-7) and 1 GHz RF video (all TV signals), allows the home owner the freedom to access these products from every outlet in the home," explains Mr Galiotos.

For the home owner, deciding which combination of video, telephone or computer they want in any one room is as simple as changing a connection in the LexCom Home Network panel.

In the latter part of 2007, Telstra Velocity services will be transformed to the GPON (gigabit passive optical network) network, which in conjunction with Telstra's broader network upgrades in April 2008 will allow services at speeds in excess of 1Gbps, as opposed to the existing 100Mbps. PDL will match these upgrades with the November 2007 release of a 1Gbps data switch capable of supporting signals requiring quality of service (QoS).

With these network upgrades, home owners at Cascade Gardens and other similar developments will be able to access services like VoIP telephony, IP TV and interactive gaming.
