Builders, electricians and developers need to be able to talk the same language when it comes to the successful installation of communications technology.
A Telstra Smart CommunityR the Ingles Group property development company in South-East Queensland knew it was important for all staff to be educated about what they would be offering to customers. That meant not only would builders and electricians have clear guidelines about what smart wiring they were installing, but so too would everyone in the organisation have an understanding of what it means to be a Telstra Smart CommunityR
'We have 900 lots in Blue Sky and Finnegan's Way coming up for sale, and as they are our largest developments on the Gold Coast over the next four years, we felt it important to have a common understanding across the organisation," explains Marion Lewis, a representative of the Ingles Group.
Ms Lewis organised a presentation to educate staff about the meaning of smart wiring and how it translates to benefits to customers.
"Our builders and contractors were invited, as well as all Ingles Group employees, including accounts, the homes division, drafts people, the estimators and the purchasers. Of particular importance were our sales and marketing staff as they are the first point of contact for the customer."
Telstra's Urban Development Manager for Qld, David Dart, and Copper Development Centre CEO, John Fennell hosted the presentation. They provided an outline of what was being installed and what options were available to customers if they took the standard smart wired package or upgraded to additional extras.
"It's essential that everyone both directly and indirectly involved in the selling and marketing of the product needs to realise the immense benefit of this technology," says Mr Dart. "If this fails to happen a crucial link in the chain is lost."
"Of equal importance is that builders and electricians install the right wiring in the home to ensure that the Telstra VelocityTM
"To grasp its importance it helps to realise that the way we live our lives is changing. With access to the right technology, the home can become the hub for work, study and entertainment. With Telstra VelocityR
Ms Lewis adds that the presentation was a good opportunity to look at what the Ingles Group has offered in the past as their smart wired standard and how this will change.
"We also discussed in detail what the customer has the option of asking for, whether it be FOXTEL DigitalTM
"It was good for us to hear what our electricians had to say so that we could all respect that everyone in the company is on the same page."
"At the end of the day, it is our product and we have to know our product."
"It is the same as any company that sells any item, however big or small...you can't sell it successfully unless you are confident in what you are selling."
